“I’ll what? Spit it out, Finch. Whatever it is, I would rather know now,” she said.
He sighed. “Now is not a great time to discuss this, but since we are waiting on reports...” He took her hands and looked at her. “To make sure you are the right one or that the bonding is complete, you must accompany me back to my world. If you can travel to the other realm, we are fully bonded.”
“Why wouldn’t I be able to come to your world? Does my body change? Will I get hurt trying to go to your world if the bonding isn’t there?”
Finch shook his head. “No, you wouldn’t get hurt. You just wouldn’t be able to go, but it would mean that you are not meant to be my forever soul.” He reached up and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear, and for some reason, the thought of not being his forever soul hurt like all hell.
“I have to say, I don’t like this,” she mumbled. “I don’t think I could lose someone again, Finch?” She whispered the last part and looked up at him. “How long does this bonding thing take? Can we find out before anything goes any further because I can’t stay here and know there is a chance I will lose you, too?” She shook her head.
“Rest, my mayor. You’re tired and still healing. I’ll wake you when we get the reports, and don’t worry. I know you’re mine, Skylar.” He placed a kiss on the top of her head as she slid down on the couch and Cooper came over with a blanket.
“He’s right, you know. You are our leader’s forever soul. He’s never been so possessive of any female before you,” Cooper tried to reassure her, but the doubt was there, and it hurt like hell.
“Your bonding thing sucks,” she said and turned to face the couch and away from their stares as a tear rolled down her cheek.
“Trust us, Skylar,” Finch said, and she hated it because she already did. There was no way Skylar was going to survive this if she wasn’t his forever soul. With the death of her fiancé and now this, it was too much.
She buried her face into the blanket and held onto it tightly, hating that the tears were once more coming down in streams. Skylar knew the minute she looked up they would be able to tell she’d been crying her eyes out. At least she wasn’t a loud one when...
“What?” she looked up as Finch lifted her into his arms again.
“You will not cry unless you are in my arms, where I can hold you,” he said, and sure enough, as soon as his strong, warm arms circled her, she buried her face into his chest and cried.
Chapter Four
Finch carefully laid Skylar down onto the couch, tucking the blanket around her tightly, staring down at her. She had cried hard, clinging to him, and he hated that he had made her cry. He would give anything that this stupid bonding thing wasn’t a big deal, and normally, it wouldn’t be, but she was right. With everything she had gone through, his little mayor was still very emotionally torn up inside, and the fact she had to perform this stupid trip didn’t help.
He looked up, and Cooper shook his head. “There is no other way, you know this. It’s been like this for over six thousand years.”
“I won’t leave her,” he said as he stood and move to the table. “I don’t care what happens, she’ll be mine, even if that means I die with her.”
Mac shook his head. “You know that is not possible. Finch, you took an oath as a lawman, and in doing so, your life force will live for the next six thousand Earth years. That is why she must be bonded to you, so she can travel if we leave here.”
He was ready to smash something when the elevator dinged, and Luster and Towers entered the room. “Well?”
“Three of the boys that were helping the mayor are dead, shot in the head. We found the other three and have them here below for their protection. We have two men already moving their families out of the town and away from all of this. The chief knew she had the boys watching them.”
“Who was killed?” Skylar said, coming up to his side.
Finch looked down at Skylar, knowing she was exhausted but was bound and determined to do what she could. She held onto the blanket as if she was cold, keeping it tight around her.
He wrapped his arm around her, bringing her closer to his body, and nodded at Luster to go on.
“I’m sorry, Mayor, Danny, Scott, and Jeff were the ones that didn’t make it. We just didn’t get there in time. They were ambushed at the same time shots rang out in the square. It would seem, the chief is cleaning up,” Luster said, and he frowned.
“Then, we need to find that location now. I refuse to lose any more people,” Finch said.
“What location? What people?” Skylar asked, looking up at him. “Does it have to do with the drugs he’s peddling here?”
“Let’s take this in the family room so Skylar can sit back down,” Finch said, scooping her up and carrying her back to the couch. “Don’t get up, little mayor.” Finch settled down next to her and waited for everyone to get settled before they began. He let Cooper explain all they had found, the evidence and such.
Thirty minutes later, the mayor’s skin had paled, and she looked sick. “Bathroom,” she said, and he didn’t waste time lifting her up and moving to the bathroom.
“Put me down, Finch, and leave me alone for a few minutes, please,” she asked.
He lowered her feet to the ground. “Why don’t you run a hot bath. In the cabinet behind you, you’ll find everything I believe you like, and I even have something you can put on.” He moved out of the bathroom and went to the master bedroom where he had started to purchase things for his bonded one, hoping she didn’t think him crazy, but he knew the perfect thing for her to put on.
Finch pulled out the warm, big, comfy robe and matching nightgown, hoping he had got something she would like. Never had he been so nervous, but his father had always told him to be prepared to bring home his bonded one when the time was right.
Stepping into the bathroom, she looked up at him then at what he had in his hand. “You really believe I’m your forever soul?”
“My father always told me growing up, no matter what, be prepared for when your bonded comes home. Make sure she has everything there just in case her belongings are destroyed or you can’t get to them. So many of our men are hunting, enforcing the law, that sometimes there are threats and we always have to make sure our hearts have everything she needs while being protected.” Finch stopped and frowned, he was actually babbling.
Skylar smiled, coming over to him, taking the things he bought for her. “I don’t know how you knew what I like, but thank you.” She frowned. “Do you think one of your men could bring Felix back here, along with his things if I agree to stay here?”
“Felix?” he asked. “And you are staying here. The council will come here for the meeting tomorrow. Cooper is already setting it up for you.” He leaned down and placed a kiss on her cheek. “Plus, it will give us time to get to know each other.”
“We’ll see. Felix is my Maine Coon cat. Just warn whoever gets him, he does nip strangers,” she said, smiling, walking back to the counter and putting the garments down. “I want to pay for all three funerals and make sure the boys’ families are all safe.” She glanced over at him. “And I will be at each of them.”
He reached up and cupped her cheek. “We will be at each of them. Until every single one of the chief’s crew is rounded up and this ring is destroyed, you go nowhere without me or one of my men. So beautiful, take your bath, Skylar.” He turned, leaving the bathroom, closing the door behind him.
Not even a minute after he had shut the door, he heard her clothes dropping to the ground. Before he turned around and joined her in the tub, he headed back to his men, needing to make sure all his men now covered all the areas the chief’s men would have. Not only was Finch in charge of his men, but what men the chief didn’t control were now under his command. From what Cooper had told him, he had been placed in charge of the police station, the chief losing control.
“Cooper, have every single man that is left in the force mee
t us here in the building. We’ll hold the meeting below in the common room, it’s big enough for everyone. Until then, I want to know who isn’t showing up for their shifts.” Finch went to join his team at the table when he heard her cries. “Cooper, have our men cover the shifts that the men have not shown up for, but make sure they watch their backs.” He turned around, stripping out of his shirt. “We’ll be out in an hour.” His woman would not cry alone if he could help it.
* * * *
Skylar slid into the garden tub, the jets on low as the tears finally started to fall. Four now dead in her town because of that piece of shit. Once more, her life was a mess. The man she loved to watch move, the way his muscles tightened up, his cute round butt, and the smell of him if she got close enough seemed to wake up every sexual hormone in her body. He couldn’t leave her, too, her heart was just starting to heal.
She reached down and threw water on her face, grabbing the soap to rub off all of the makeup of the day and the dirt, all the while, her hands shook, and Skylar couldn’t seem to stop crying.
At least it wasn’t big, fat, ugly sobs like she had done earlier, but still, she just felt exhausted, that she could sleep a day and still be tired.
Skylar jumped and looked behind her, getting soap in her eyes, seeing Finch sliding in behind her. “What are you doing?” she asked and scooped up some water, trying to get the soap out of her eyes.
“You cry in my arms, my little mayor, always,” he said, reaching over and handing her a small towel before pulling her back up against him.
His cock hit her butt and back, he was hard, big, but right now, his arms felt like heaven. She wiped her face and looked back at him. “I should kick you out of here, but right now, being in your arms helps, thank you.” She rested her head back on his chest, closing her eyes. “One day is all I want without crying. One.”
Finch kissed the side of her head. “I can’t pretend to know what you are going through. I just know I will be here for you, Skylar, every day, anytime you need me. Relax, I’ve got you, and right now, there is not much we can do. My men are out there searching. I have someone on the chief at all times now that the council has released him from his duties. I’ve also called a meeting with the ones that haven’t quiet or left. We will slowly weed out the ones that helped him with all this crap.”
“I still can’t believe he was doing what he was doing. Sex trafficking in my city. I’ve been thinking I really believe that is what sent Trevor over. There is no way he’d even be a part of it. Maybe he found out about something, and the chief threatened him.” She shook her head.
“I guess I’ll never know even with the note he wrote.” She looked up at Finch. “When this is over, I think I’m not going to run for mayor again. I’d like to start a suicide help group here in town. Did you know in the last year there have been over ten suicides in our small town alone? Most of them are among Trevor’s age or older.”
Finch hugged her tighter. “You do whatever you have to, beautiful lady, and I’ll help. I also think maybe getting more people involved in the town itself might help, too. Your older generation helping those you are speaking of. On our world, the older generation is the one the young ones learn from. My father and mother teach many of our officers before they go out into the different realms looking for their city to settle in.”
“I like that idea. Finch, do you really believe I’m your forever thing?”
“Forever soul and I know you are, Skylar. Already I see the signs that you are changing. Your body recognizes and takes comfort in my arms. Soon, your heart and soul will also seek the connection to mine. I feel little bits here and there, but you will know when.”
“Do you think this hole in my heart will ever heal? I mean, what I feel for you is different, but yet, there is still an emptiness inside like he took a piece of me with him.”
“Even on our world some seek peace. But I have no answers for you. I do believe little by little the pain will ease up. You are doing the best you can and are stepping in the right direction. Together, we’ll get through this, and both of us will be stronger for it. Maybe in a way, your Trevor brought us together knowing you needed me and I needed you,” Finch said.
She frowned. “Never thought of it that way, but you could be right. He was always looking out for me, protective. Not as bad as I think you could be, but he still would worry and make sure I was safe. Do you believe that when a person passes, he goes to another world?”
“Yes, there are many out there, and I truly believe we are given another chance. We also believe our bonded one comes with us. That she travels the same path as her man.”
“I like your thinking.” She smiled. “I still can’t believe you are sitting in the tub with me and haven’t tried a damn thing.” Skylar put her hand on his leg, running her fingers over his muscular leg.
“I have to admit, Finch, the first time I saw you I didn’t want to admit it, but I knew then there was something, but I think it bothered me that I could feel something after he was gone.” She looked back up at him. “But I realized, Trevor wouldn’t want me to waste away because he gave up.”
Finch’s hand covered hers. “I think you were the last piece to why I knew we had to stay. The sadness I saw in your eyes that day was too much. Even now, there is a little shadow, and I’m hoping to at least erase that shadow and put a smile in your eyes.” With his other hand, Finch cupped her breast.
“Believe me, Skylar, I noticed everything about you. The way your ass sways when you walk. Or the way your breasts fill your shirts, then when you come in the morning, the scent of your perfume, and let’s not forget that nice little green dress you wore last week.” He nipped her shoulder. “You, my dear mayor, have driven me crazy wanting you, needing to hold and love you.”
She slowly turned around in his arms, really looking at the man who was slowly claiming her heart and easing the loss of Trevor. His almost black-gray eyes she could stare into forever. His black hair always pulled back into some kind of wrap, which had her wanting to take it out some times.
Tattoos, markings covered his chest where she wanted to explore each one with her mouth and fingers. A badge-like tattoo on his one muscular arm was sort of like a police badge but different.
Her gaze drifted down when Skylar noticed the man had no hair on his chest whatsoever, but she didn’t care. She’d cried a number of times already there, and Skylar was beginning to love that part of her man.
Very slowly, Skylar’s gaze drifted lower and stopped before gasping at what she saw.
Chapter Five
The way Skylar slowly scanned his body had him in sexual frustration if there was such a thing as that, but the moment she stared at his hard diligord, had him reaching out, pulling her back to him, setting her in his lap, which really didn’t help.
“Little mayor, you must stop. I am only so strong,” he said, rubbing his chin on the top of her head, trying to control his body but having a rather difficult time doing it.
She placed a kiss on his chest. “Maybe that is what I want.” Skylar leaned back, she reached up and cupped his cheek. “Love me, here in this tub, where it’s no one but you and me. Fill my body while filling my heart with something other than pain and heartache.”
Finch didn’t move, searching, looking for anything that would save her because, right now, her words drove him past the point of coming back. “Are you sure?”
Skylar swung a leg around, facing him; lifting up onto her knees, she reached down and grabbed onto his diligord.
Finch grabbed onto her hips, stopping her from lowering herself down on him. “No,” he growled, lifting her up into his arms, placing her back up against the wall. “One last time, my little mayor. I’m trying to be a gentleman as you humans call it.” He growled against her neck and nipped it before placing a kiss on the spot.
She grabbed onto his voyflen, yanking his head back. “Who said anything about you being a gentleman? Because I know damn well
it didn’t come out of my mouth.”
He didn’t wait, covering her mouth, exploring, tasting, and teasing while at the same time Finch slid his hand between them, pushing two of his longer-than-normal fingers up into her. Her small channel was tight, and for his girth, he knew he’d have to go slow.
Breaking the kiss, Finch stared at her, his gaze never leaving hers as he brought up his fingers, sucking on them, tasting them. Her eyes got big, and he smiled. “Mine, you are mine finally.” He pulled back a little, rubbing his ridged cock against her outer lips.
“We are bigger and different from your men. I will try and go slow,” he said and started inching his cock into her. “Cup your breast, push it up for me to suck on,” he gritted out, inching more into her when all he wanted to do was thrust into her, but he had been taught restraint.
Her head fell back, and she moaned but did as he asked, releasing her hold on his hair, holding on with the other hand. “Finch,” she whispered.
His name on her lips as he made love to her was something he had dreamed of. Her mouth, thick pink lips. He pushed in a little faster than he intended, and she groaned.
“That’s what I’m talking about. Move!” She lifted her head and looked at him. “I don’t need slow,” she said and shifted her hips forward, impaling herself.
“Skylar,” he hissed, but already, she was moving her hips, wanting, needing more, and he wasn’t about to deny her anything right then and there.
Leaning down, Finch nipped her nipple before sucking it into his mouth. She’d be marked by the time he got done, and his scent would be all over her, warning others to stay away.
His people might be advanced when it came to medicine, technologies, and such, but when it came down to the bonding, it was the same after a thousand years. The fierce need to provide, protect, and mark what was his would always be there.
