  Chapter One

Jaya Sartar stared at the computer screen and once more looked at the price—$30,000. She tapped the keys on the keyboard with her fingernails and sighed as she clicked the Buy button. It wasn’t as if she didn’t have the money, but still, even to her $30,000 was a chunk out of her savings, especially if said cyborg-man/machine decided to reject her.

The wind howled and little pellets of ice hit her windows, distracting her for a moment. Jaya didn’t know why, but she always felt as though someone was watching her. She rubbed her arms. “One more reason why I need him,” she mumbled. She’d reached down to grab her credit card when the shutter slammed against the side of her house. Jaya jumped and screamed at the same time, grabbing her chest.

“Okay, cyber man, come protect me, please. Or should I say Mordock, or whatever your name is?”

With her hands trembling, Jaya punched in her credit information and highlighted the speedy-delivery option, not caring that it would cost an extra thousand dollars to get him down from the space station and to her home by tomorrow. Her Valentine Cyborg needed to be here now.

For five years Jaya had been in hiding, and she’d moved more than six times. She was tired. Now she had the home of her dreams, her books sales were finally taking off, so she didn’t have to work outside her home, and for the first time in 15 years, Jaya was happy.

“If this creep doesn’t find me first,” she whispered to herself while making her way to the large bay window. She scanned the woods around her house but saw nothing. The moon was full and lit the forest so that she could see a little farther into the trees than she normally could.

She stared down at her scarred hands and arms. “At least I won’t have to worry about Mordock cringing at the sight of my scars, I hope.” Jaya smiled as she remembered her conversation with the bot last night. For the last two years, she had fallen asleep with the bot Bryn. Each night in her dreams, he would take her into his arms and hold her while she would tell him everything. Her personal fantasies, her nightmares, the pain of being so lonely. And after listening to each of her problems, he would kiss every inch of her body, teasing her and dominating her.

Her computer binged, indicating it was ready for her to input her information. Jaya sat down smiling, remembering their interaction the night before, when he had actually paddled her ass. She squirmed in her chair and shook her head. “Stop thinking about that now. He’s gone.”

Bryn had said good-bye to her last night, and he had encouraged her to order the cyborg for protection after she’d told him about her idea.

Jaya read the questions and started to check the programs she wanted installed in her cyborg. That was until she came to the list of extras, which could also be purchased as add-ons for him. Her nipples hardened at the list of sexual words, ones she was accustomed to using in her own books. Jaya hovered the cursor over the list as her granny underwear became wet.

“Damn, might as well indulge in my fantasies. Who knows, it might be easier to write it once I’ve done it.” She clicked her preferences for light BDSM, spanking, anal sex, oral sex, and dominance in the bedroom. She turned to the list of defensive software and clicked every option. Jaya didn’t care if it was redundant. This man/cyborg had to be ready to protect her when he got here.

After selecting the last program, Jaya hit the Finish button and sat back, waiting for the picture of her perfect cyborg, Mordock, to appear. Within five minutes Jaya was staring at the image on her computer screen. She traced his strong cheekbones and full lips with a finger. The picture didn’t show anything else. Jaya knew that some of the men/cyborgs had tails and some were part wolf. Her best friend’s cyborg, now husband, was part wolf, and, God, he was hot! The man on the screen sort of looked like her bot Bryn, but that couldn’t be right.

To think, she had just agreed to have someone part alien and part machine live with her for the next ten years. She sighed. “Well, if he doesn’t want to have sex, that’s okay, as long as I’m safe.”

Jaya knew he would be on the next shuttle to Ohio. By tomorrow morning, she would be protected in her home. There would be no more running.

She flipped to the story she’d been writing and tried to work on it, but realized there was no way she could concentrate. Jaya shifted to her website and checked the messages. Sure enough, he had posted in the comments section. That alone didn’t bother her, but what he had linked to his post had her shaking, badly. It was a recent picture of her.

With a flick of a button, she shut down her computer and jumped up from her chair. The picture had been taken at the last writers’ convention in New York, a place she believed she was safe.

On automatic meltdown, she ran to the front door and made sure all six deadbolt locks were in position. Next, she checked every window, making sure they were shut tight and locked in every room.

Jaya entered her kitchen and turned on her stove before checking the back door. She picked up the kettle, filled it with water for a cup of her favorite decaffeinated tea and grabbed the phone. She slumped into the kitchen chair, took a deep breath and dialed her best friend’s number.

“What’s wrong, Jaya? You never call this late,” Tammy asked, her voice full of concern.

“He was in New York, Tammy, in the same hotel.” Now even her voice was shaky, barely a whisper. “Shit, I thought this crap was over. It’s been over two years since the last time he posted anything. I can be there in an hour. I just have to wait till Ragger comes home.”

She shook her head and went around the house again double checking the doors and windows before coming back into the kitchen. She grabbed the kettle and poured the hot water into her cup. “No, I’ll be okay. Plus, I did it. I placed my order tonight. He should be here by tomorrow morning.”

A loud shriek pierced her eardrum, and she knew Tammy was jumping up and down. She juggled the phone as she rubbed her ear. “You’re acting as if he’s coming to your home. You know, he might not want to stay, and there’s no guarantee he’ll turn out like yours did.”

“You always do that, and I hate it,” her friend snapped. “You should wear that sexy nightgown I gave you tonight. You have no idea what time he’ll arrive, so you might as well look hot, and no granny underwear. Oh, and for Pete’s sakes, don’t be talking to that computer tonight. You’ll have the real thing soon enough. You don’t need the fake crap that bot implants in your dreams.”

Jaya spit the sip of tea out of her mouth. “Shit, Tammy, only you would say that, and I’m not putting on that nightgown, but… I will put on the nightshirt you gave me last Christmas.” She reached over and wiped down the counter. “And I couldn’t talk to him anyway. He’s been taken offline. Who knows, maybe he found someone and he wasn’t fake.”

“Fine, but not the granny undies, and damn it, make sure you undo that tight-ass braid you always p
ut your hair in. You have beautiful hair. I love the fact you have three different colors in it, when it takes me $200 and three hours in the beauty parlor to have something like that done to mine. Ragger and I will come over tomorrow night. Maybe having someone like him close by will help. Ragger has organized the other cyborgs in this area. He’s even purchased a large warehouse so they could meet.”

Tammy took a deep breath. “Do you have everything locked? Did you call the constable?” she asked, finally giving Jaya space to talk.

“I’ll call when I hang up with you. Maybe I should cancel my party tomorrow. It won’t have half the security we need.” Jaya took the last sip of her tea, put the cup in the sink and moved to the bathroom.

“No! You can’t do that. Just wait and see what happens tomorrow. You know this party is your coming out. Plus, Ragger will be there. He’s already uploaded several defense programs knowing you might need help. He’s invited a couple of the men he met to protect you. You have people coming in from all over the world just to meet with you and have a hot Valentine’s night. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go to a Valentines party with the world’s best erotic writer? You can’t cancel.”

“We’ll see, and tell Ragger thank you. He didn’t have to do that. Listen, I’m going to let you go. I’m going to take a nice hot bubble bath after I call the constable, and thank you, Tammy, for listening to me. Tell Ragger I said hello.”

Dialing the constable’s number, Jaya waited for him to answer while she stripped.

“Constable Davis here,” the large beefy man answered the phone, and she smiled.

“Hello, Davis, this is Jaya. I wanted to inform you that he’s contacted me again.” Jaya shivered and stepped into the hot, soapy water.

“When and how?” Davis ordered, and Jaya could just picture him behind the large desk his wife had given him for Christmas.

Jaya explained all the details and told him she would wait for him to stop by tomorrow, knowing he would want his computer expert to try to track Mordock’s whereabouts once more. She closed her eyes and dropped the phone to the floor, trying to relax.

  Tomorrow everything would change.

  Chapter Two

He gripped the armrests of the metal chair as the last of the programs were uploaded into his computer-enhanced brain. In two hours and 23 minutes they would land near Jaya Sartar’s home. Bryn had waited for two years for this day, to be joined with his chosen one.

It had taken his people over 60 years for Earth humans to allow them onto their planet without fear of a hostile takeover. But their world needed females for the mating process, and they didn’t want to risk a single woman getting hurt. He was one of the lucky ones. It was rare for someone of his species to find his biological mate, especially on this backward planet. To think, a blip on the radar had accidentally led his people here. That he had found his own bonding mate while surfing the web was unique.

Once more he gritted his teeth as the next defense program ran through his brain, causing him to jerk in pain. Sure, his kind could implant all sorts of programs into their heads, but they did cause some minor pain while they were loading. He was more worried about the fact his female was unprotected right now. The creature that had stalked her had found her again and Bryn wasn’t there to protect her as he should be.

When he had seen the picture the creature had posted to her website, Bryn almost put his fist through the computer screen. The only comfort he took was that one of his teammates had also found his partner near Jaya. Ragger had four men stationed around her home until he got there.

The bot behind him unhooked the port, and Bryn cracked his neck as he stood. The bones in his legs were made from a Titus metal, as were those in his arms. His chest was a softer metal that grew as he grew, and that growth wouldn’t stop for another 60 years. The metal in his legs and arms also grew with him but did so in spurts, always causing some pain.

He hid his natural form from Earth humans, just as all their people did. Bryn grinned and guided the small shuttle down to Earth. Yes, only their bonding partners knew what they were, and that was because of the mating. Only in true form could they copulate. Bryn laughed. “My little bundle of stubborn neurons, you have no idea how close to your fantasy description I truly am.” Bryn came from a male-dominated race. Their females were priceless to them, and they were protected and hidden from his race’s enemies.

He glanced out at the stars, his keen eyesight searching for any trace of others who might be waiting to attack him. Bryn’s guard had pleaded with him not to journey to Earth alone, but he would give his female the courting she deserved before he had to take control and bring her to his world. His world was one of gentle dominance and sexual pleasure, the likes of which she could not yet comprehend.

“Sir, we are reaching Earth’s gravity,” his younger brother said behind him.

“Thank you, Markus, and remember, as soon as I have my woman under control, you may come down and join us, but until then, I don’t want to bombard her with family.” His long metal tail disappeared, the large horns on his head shrank into his skull and the fur that covered his body slowly pulled back into his skin, leaving only a trace of hair.

Oh, he would let her experience a small portion of what he was this morning, but he would also introduce the rest of himself slowly. One thing he would demand of her was the truth. Bryn had seen what she looked like, not the image she had sent to him years ago. He stared down at one of the books she had written and smiled.

“Soon, Jaya, you’ll have that private playroom, and I personally plan on spending hours there testing your endurance.” His cock hardened and grew, but he pushed the thought back and his computer reduced the sexual tension in his form. “You’ll have your Valentine’s cyborg, my love.

“Markus, take us around her property and scan the surroundings.” He approached the control board. The only movement on her property came from the guards from his world. The guards were in place. Jaya owned over 25 acres according to the court records on the main frame of the county’s computer.

Ragger had already started buying property in the nearby city. Soon they would own most of the area and only his people would reside here from now until it was once again time to go home. “Land over there. She is expecting us, so there is no reason for us to hide. Once I leave, take the ship there.” Bryn pointed to a structure on the outskirts of the city.

Ragger has already bought the building, and his own ship was already there.

“I’ll expect to see you at this party my bonded-mate-to-be has arranged. You and Ragger will make sure the area is secured. We still don’t know who this human is, but I want him found this week.”

He grabbed his small bag. Human clothes now covered his body. Bryn did like their leather. He enjoyed the way it covered his body and how it felt on his skin. The door slid open, and he took a deep breath of their air, almost choking. He shook his head. “Already they are polluting their world. It will be hard to save them if they keep this up.”

“We have no choice, as you have said. Their females are the only ones we have found within six light years from our planet that can bond with us and carry our children without dying.” Markus’ purple eyes glowed, indicating his irritation at their predicament.

Bryn said nothing as he jumped from the shuttle and landed with a thud. He rose and nodded to the three men who joined him from their watching posts.

“All goes well here. No one has approached the house of your bonding mate. It’s good to see you, sir.”

Ragger gave him a fierce hug. “It’s been a long time, Bryn.”

“Yes, it has been. My female is as stubborn as they come.” He patted his friend’s back. “I’m glad your partner was able to help persuade her to make the purchase. The Earth humans think that if they control the purchase, they can control us. How wrong they are. It is we who control their computers. How goes the acquisition of the properties?”

The other men hugged him and moved back to their post. “W
e must have this entire city under our control before we can start bringing our equipment down, and from the smell of this air, the sooner, the better. How many times have you had to clean your lungs and body of the pollutants since you have been here?” Bryn asked.

Ragger rubbed the back of his neck. “I have to do it at least three times an Earth month. I have to use our incubators here for my children. They are too young to clean their bodies themselves. My bond mate is frightened, Ragger. Every time she watches me hook our children up to the machine, she cries. I hate to say it, but I can’t stand seeing her cry. She still can’t understand some of our practices, but I believe having her best friend to talk to will help.”

He nodded. “Tell her not to worry. If all goes according to the plans you sent me, we should be able to bring down at least one Airton next week. It would at least clean this area so our children won’t have to be pumped. Go home to your woman. It’s time I claim mine.” He hugged his friend and stared up at the old, large farm house, knowing he would have his days cut out fixing this place for their stay there.

A swing was attached to the wooden ceiling, pots of flowers lined the banister, and an old cat was curled up on the mat next to the door. He smiled as he took the steps two at a time. The cat lifted its head, looking at him, then lowered it again, knowing he wouldn’t harm it.

Locks clicked and the front door opened slowly. The scent of lavender and Jaya’s personal fragrance was like a drug to him, because at once his glands took over, sending out the hormone to attract his bonded.

Her hair, a mixture of blond, red and black fell down to the middle of her back. She wore a black nightshirt, which outlined her large breasts and barely covered her plump body. “You are early. Please come in.” She stepped back and opened the door farther for him.

Stepping into her home, he smiled as he scanned her furnishings. Jaya was a clean one, which suited him well. The bolts to the door slid shut behind him. “They won’t hold back the human who is after you, but that doesn’t matter now I’m here. Come here, Jaya.” He held out his hand and waited.
